Reset an Appliance to Factory Defaults

Overview

Occasionally, you may be asked by Customer Support to perform a Device Reset, most likely for troubleshooting purposes (due to a device becoming Overdue, failing to upgrade, etc.).  If this is the case, please follow the procedure outlined below.

Procedure

This reset process will erase any recordings currently on the appliance, so be sure to upload any captures to the ESS that you'd like to keep.

The procedure differs depending on what type of device you have.  The Echo360 PRO can be reset via the Front Panel of the device, while the SafeCapture HD and the Capture Appliance need to have a reset file applied manually.

Echo360 PRO

  1. Log into the Administration Menu using the front panel on the PRO.
  2. Using the up and down arrow buttons, scroll to Factory reset device sub-menu and select Enter.
  3. Select either "Save Settings" or "Delete Settings." For additional details on these settings, please see the admin menu details.
  4. The PRO will reboot and register itself automatically with the ESS if you chose "Save Settings".  If you chose "Delete Settings", then proceed with Applying the Configuration File.

SafeCapture HD

  1. Download the following file via anonymous FTP (username: anonymous; password: password):
    ftp://ftp.echo360.com/support/Tools/device_reset.tgz

Please note that this file does not need to be extracted, but does need to be freshly downloaded. The device reset file is updated regularly, so please ensure that you're using the latest version.

  2. Download the appliance's device.xml file from the Configuration -> Devices -> Device Details page of the ESS.
  3. Copy both of the files from steps 1 & 2 (the device.xml and the device_reset.tgz) to an empty USB thumb drive which has been FAT32 formatted and insert it into the appliance while powered on.
  4. Wait for the LEDs on the SCHD to flash blue.  This may take several minutes.  For more information on the LEDs and what they mean, please see About the LEDs on the EchoSystem SafeCapture HD.
  5. Once the LEDs flash blue, remove the thumb drive from the SCHD appliance.
  6. The SCHD will reboot and register itself automatically. This may take several more minutes.

Capture Appliance

  1. Download the following file via anonymous FTP (username: anonymous; password: password):
    ftp://ftp.echo360.com/support/Tools/device_reset.tgz

Again, please note that this file does not need to be extracted, but does need to be freshly downloaded. The device reset file is updated regularly, so please ensure that you're using the latest version.

  2. Copy the device_reset.tgz to an empty USB thumb drive which has been FAT32 formatted and then insert it into the appliance while powered on.
  3. Wait 15 seconds.
  4. Remove the thumb drive from the SD appliance.
  5. Proceed with Applying the Configuration File.
